Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament framed through a stone archway near Westminster Bridge, London, at night. Black and white, Fujifilm GFX100S.

Westminster Bridge and the Elizabeth Tower — universally known as Big Ben, though that's technically the name of the bell — are among the most photographed subjects in Europe. Finding a frame that does something with them rather than just documenting them is the work. This view frames the tower through a stone archway near the south bank, isolating the facade and the bridge in a composition that uses the architecture itself as a foreground element. Shot at night, when the artificial lighting on the tower holds against a dark sky and the stone archway reads as shadow and texture. The Fujifilm GFX100S converted to black and white. The conversion removes the warm sodium glow of the tower's floodlighting and lets the structural relationship between the arch and the tower dominate. Available on ImageTech Photo Gloss paper, ChromaLuxe aluminum metal prints, and Lumachrome HD TruLife acrylic. Standard sizes from 11x14 to 40x50. Limited edition, numbered, with certificate of authenticity.

"Big Ben and Westminster Bridge at Night" reveals the extraordinary beauty found in unexpected moments. Technical Approach

This photograph was captured using a Medium Format Digital camera. Shot during night in mostly clear conditions, the light and atmosphere shaped the character of this image. Summer light, intense and directional, demanded precise timing and careful exposure management.

Location & Subject

The American landscape offers endless variety for the patient photographer. Understanding how light, weather, and season interact with terrain allows meaningful interpretation of natural scenes. Each location presents unique challenges and rewards, requiring technical skill and artistic vision to translate three-dimensional experience into compelling two-dimensional photographs. Black and white photography distills landscapes to their essential elements—form, texture, light, and shadow. Without color to guide the eye, tonal relationships become paramount. Zone System techniques, developed by Ansel Adams for large format film, provide systematic control over these relationships from exposure through printing. The resulting images possess a timeless quality that color photography rarely achieves.
