"Circle of Life" presents a distinctive perspective on Colorado's majestic Rocky Mountains. In subalpine lakes in the Rocky Mountains, trees die and fall, and then other trees grow from the same spot. The process isn't metaphorical — it's biological. Nurse logs, nurse stumps. A dead tree provides the elevated substrate that new growth needs to establish above the waterlogged ground. This image holds both together: the dead spruce standing above the water line, stripped and gray, and beside it a young sapling with green needles growing from a moss-covered stump. This photograph was captured using a Medium Format Digital camera. Shot during sunset in clear conditions, the light and atmosphere shaped the character of this image. Autumn color transformed the landscape, adding warmth and visual richness to the natural scene.
