The Image

"Evergreen Reflections" presents a distinctive perspective on Colorado's majestic Rocky Mountains. On this afternoon, the mountains behind the pond were blocking the direct sunlight, leaving the scene in even, diffuse light that let every detail of the trees and the fall color show through without harsh shadow. The pond is small. The scree slope rises directly behind the treeline. There's nothing else in the frame. The reflection doubles everything cleanly — the evergreens, the fall color, the slope behind. Shot on the Hasselblad CFV II 50C at sunset in fall, on a day with no wind. The medium format sensor resolves the fine needle detail in the evergreens and the texture of the scree reflected in the water. Technical Approach

This photograph was captured using a Medium Format Digital camera. Shot during sunset in sunny conditions, the light and atmosphere shaped the character of this image. Autumn color transformed the landscape, adding warmth and visual richness to the natural scene. The stillness of this small pond created wonderful reflections of both the fall colors and the evergreen trees. Even though there was not a cloud in the sky the mountains were blocking the direct light allowing ever detail to show through.
