On this morning, the pond was partially frozen — the edges solid, a dark section of open water in the center reflecting the trees above. Snow was falling heavily enough to blur the distant treeline but lightly enough that the reflection in the open water stayed clear. The bare oak branches created a reflection of winter structure.
